Impossible.
There were just too many of them to remember any of the names they threw at Rodney in that thick accent. He used to think that Carson was bad, but that was before he realized just how much his doctor had adapted to everyone around him. Now that he was among family, hordes and hordes of it, Carson’s own Scottish brogue had deepened considerably.
Currently Carson had abandoned him cruelly, off to ‘assist’ his mother with something completely useless, as far as Rodney was concerned anyway. A pack of children ran past Rodney, coming out of nowhere and disappearing just as suddenly, but not before he flailed and spilled his drink on the carpet.
Carson’s mother’s prized throw rug.
Amidst the swearing in his head, Rodney began to panic. That was it, she was going to hate him forever, and of course Carson, great big momma’s boy that he was, wouldn’t be able to get over that. He’d be forced to break up with Rodney; it would be the messiest, worst, most unbearable thing to ever happen to him.
Not because a break up was on level with potential universal destruction or anything, but because Rodney had finally, finally figured out Carson was it for him. No other lover was ever going to put up with the manic wake ups at three o’clock in the morning because he thinks he’s running a fever. Or look at him the way Carson does when he’s fumbling with their clothes. Rodney’s still a little bit awful at sex and Carson doesn’t mind at all, mostly because he’s equally as unsure. Grateful. Damn that bastard Scotsman for making Rodney used to the idea that someone enjoys sleeping with him, nervous fingers and all.
Then someone else would snatch Carson up, because let’s face it. A doctor plus those eyes and that smile add up to a package that many find tempting. Carson never realized just how many, and for that Rodney is ever thankful. He still doesn’t see why Carson went moony over him in the first place, but he isn’t going to complain. Except now… there won’t be anything he can do about it.
Carson and his mother are laughing as they walk back into the room, both carrying trays of food. Rodney freezes as they spot the slowly spreading stain on the rug, and the general buzz of Carson’s mass of family fades to the background.
“Och, dunnae stand there, lad. Ye’ll track that all over God’s creation.” His mother clicks in cheery disapproval and hands off the tray to Rodney, while making short work of cleaning up the spill.
Carson leads him to the table to set down his temporary burden, apparently unfazed by the near colossal impact punch could have on their relationship.
“Watch out for the wee ones, Rodney. They like ta get underfoot.”
Of course, Carson must have inherited his nature from somewhere and Rodney glances between mother and son. He lets out a relieved sigh and smiles. Next time, he’ll remember to blame the children immediately.

So very Rodney to be panicky over some spilled beverage, thinking Carson would break up with him cause he ruined his mum's carpet...
Thank you very much for sharing!
